IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty J
Hogan
June 8, 1947 – April 8, 2025
You can shed tears that I am gone, or you can smile because you know where I have gone. Your heart can be empty because you can't see me, or you can show others the type of love I've shared over the years. I want each of you to live by the principle that I have always believed: "Be not dismayed whatever betide, God will take care of you, beneath His wings of love abide, God will take care of you."
Funeral services were held on Friday, April 18, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Victory Baptist Church in Milledgeville, Georgia.
A Life Well Lived
Our beloved Betty Jean Trawick was born on June 8, 1947, in Milledgeville, GA. Her proud parents were the late Mr. Eugene "Shorty" Trawick and the late Mrs. Bessie Butts Trawick Mitchell. Betty received her primary education in the Ohio's Cleveland school districts and Georgia's Baldwin County public schools. She
graduated from J. F. Boddie High School, in the illustrious class of 1966.
Shortly after graduation, Betty married Walter Hogan of Milledgeville, Georgia. Although their marriage was brief, their friendship endured throughout her lifetime, even until her final days.
At a young age, she joined the historic Greater Wesley Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Betty answered her call to
service as a member of the Missionary Board. Also, she served on the Missionary Board at Flipper Chapel AME Church. Betty held
membership in the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 523.
Betty Hogan was a social butterfly who never met a stranger. Betty was a dedicated classmate who developed lasting friendships with
her classmates and served as class treasurer. She was an excellent seamstress, baker, and enjoyed traveling. Above all, Betty Hogan
found joy in helping people.
In 1999, after thirty years of dedicated employment, Betty retired from Central State Hospital in the position of Health Service
Instructor. After retirement, she continued to share her insights and knowledge of health services and patient care as a CNA and
Houseparent in local healthcare agencies including Oconee Mental Health Center, Brantley's Assisted Living Community, and the
Georgia War Veterans Home.
Betty Hogan was known for her fearless voice of advocacy where there was unfair patient treatment or a need for a positive change
in the workplace. Her advocacy played a key role in the SEIU union negotiations where she fought for state employees to be
valued and respected. She served as a poll worker for many years demonstrating her civic duty in local, state, and federal elections.
Our beloved, Betty Jean Trawick Hogan quietly entered eternal rest on Monday, April 8, 2025. Her death occurred in a Macon,
Georgia hospital after a brief illness. Betty was a beautiful 77-year-old soul who shall be deeply missed.
